The suburb of Marsden is located about 4 km south of the Logan City centre and about 24 km south of central Brisbane. The suburb was named after Violet Marsden, an older member of the local progress association. Marsden’s boundaries to the north are the Logan Motorway and Scrubby Creek, to the west Fifth Avenue, to the east Chambers Flat Road, and to the south the suburb of Crestmead and Browns Plains Road. Marsden enjoys easy access to Logan City via the Kingston Road.
89.75 of homes in the suburb are free standing. While 34.4% of homes in the area are rented, most (40.7%) are being purchased and 17% are owned. 48.2% of homes in Marsden are occupied by couples with children, 25.5% are occupied by couples without children and a further 24.7% are occupied by single parent families.
A number of schools are available in Marsden and surrounding areas, including Marsden Kindergarten and Child Care Centre, the Hedley Child Care and Education Centres, Marsden State School, Burrowes State School, Marsden High School in Cherry Tree Place, the Waterford Primary School and Marsden State High School in Waterford West. Other training, sports and recreational facilities include the Raw Talent School of Entertainment, the Marsden Tennis Centre, the Golf Driving Range on 3rd Avenue and the nearby Kingston Park raceway.
Coles Supermarket, the Marsden Park Shopping Centre, Quick Food Stores and a range of specialist shops including an Asian grocery store and fashion boutiques are available on Tamarind Street and Chambers Flat Road. A variety of restaurants and eateries are also available in the same area, with a few others close by in Crestmead.
Scrubby Creek and the J.J. Smith Recreation Corridor along the northern Marsden boundary offers great walkways and bikeways for residents to either stroll or ride along towards the Marsden Shopping area from near 3rd Avenue. The vegetation in this wildlife corridor is make up various eucalypts and tall canopy trees, as well as grassy and shrubby areas, providing suitable habitat for a large number of bird species. Other local parks include Marsden Park, Pescara Park and Burrinjuck Park.
