Shailer Park is named after husband and wife Francis and Catherine Shailer. They came to the area with their children in 1866, first cultivating the area with cotton and sugar. Eventually, they ventured into fruit farming. Their fruit plantation in Slacks Creek became the first ever citrus orchard in the southern part of Queensland.

Shailer Park became a district in 1971 and officially became a suburb in 1991.

As proof of the suburb’s liveability, from 2005 to 2006, it was officially listed by the Queensland government as a major activity centre in the South East Queensland Regional Plan. It is considered as one of the more well-off suburbs of Logan City.
