Algester, a residential suburb of Brisbane, is approximately 17 km from Brisbane’s city centre. It is situated between the Gateway Motorway and Logan Motorway. Some of its neighbouring suburbs are Calamvale, Willawong, Sunnybank Hills and Pallara. Algester originally formed part of Acacia Ridge but it was separated and officially named in 1972.
Algester’s schools include St Stephen’s Catholic Primary School, Algester State Primary School and Preschool. The Queensland Institute of Commerce and Technology is in Algester and the Calamvale Community College is also nearby. The Runcorn train station is only a few minutes by bus, which is operated by the Brisbane City Council. Beaudesert Road provides access to Brisbane.
Houses, townhouses and units in Algester comprise old and modern brick finishes. Various architectural styles include modern versions of Cape Cod and colonial style homes, as well as properties with a Spanish character. Property management Algester provides information on houses and units for rental in this mainly residential area. The homes generally have four bedrooms, a lounge and double garages. Mature palm trees attractively line the main roads, because electric cables were installed underground, which didn’t affect the flora in the area.
Ridgewood Drive leads on to Algester’s shopping centre and, for variety, the surrounding suburbs’ shopping malls also provide many services for the general public. Real estate Algester has grown to suit its residents. There is no shortage of banks, supermarkets, fashion stores, and travel agents, amongst many others. Several restaurants and cafes provide gastronomic delights with various Italian, Chinese, and Indian restaurants to satisfy all tastes.
One of the main recreational attractions is Colonel Bennett Park (formerly Ridgewood Road Park). The park’s namesake was a well-known barrister, sports patron and Member of Parliament who represented South Brisbane. Local residents and visitors take leisurely walks in the park that also provides plenty of activities for the children such as athletics training. Many of the neighbourhood’s events are held in Colonel Bennett Park. Residents from the adjoining suburbs also use the park to hold their community events in fact this beautiful area has become the nucleus of the local residents. The Algester Sunday’s Lions Club sponsors the Family Fun Day that is held in the park every year.
Several other parks serve the public’s recreational needs. These are Laurel Oak Park, Lorikeet Park, Endiandra Street Park, Pardalote Park and Timberland Park. They each add to the tranquil ambience of this delightful suburb.
